Why do you want me to purchase my own fabric?
We've learned from experience that you, the customer, are happiest when you are free to buy your fabric wherever you want. As a custom workroom, we'd make more money if we insisted you buy fabric only from us, but it's a question of ethics. Most decorators, upholsterers and slipcover makers force you to buy fabrics only from them because it's easier to make money selling materials than it is to sell your labor. That's why it's called labor.

If wanted new tile installed in your kitchen, you'd want the best tile-setter you could find, not just someone who 'came with the purchase' of the tile you chose. We promote and market our custom labor because we are the best slipcover studio in the state, and, as you might understand, we are pretty smug about that fact!

Can I machine wash my slipcovers?
Yes. IF they've been made to be machine washed. If we cut and make your slipcovers, and you prewashed your fabric according to the instructions we gave you, then yes.

But IF you purchased your slipcovers ready-made from another manufacturer, and you decide to machine wash them rather than dry clean them, you're taking a huge risk. Don't do it. Back slowly away from the washing machine. Never machine wash something you're not sure about. Manufacturers such as Surefit, Sundance, Pottery Barn and even Ikea (sadly) often cut corners by not prewashing their fabrics. And why should they? If you were in business to make as big a profit as you could on materials, you wouldn't go the extra labor and step of prewashing fabrics either.

These vendors often provide consumers with instructions saying it's ok to machine wash and put damp slipcovers on your furniture, stretching them to fit. This is NOT an ideal situation for multiple reasons, but do it if you must. If you bought one of these slipcovers, you have to live with it.

How long have you been making slipcovers?
Over 15 years. It's 2009 now as I'm revising this text. And this is Jen answering. I'm a pro, and almost always the person who comes to custom drape and cut your slipcovers. If it's not me personally then it's a colleague I've trained and supervised to do it to our exacting standards, which are the highest. Yes, I'm vain about our work here. We are extremely proud of the work we produce out of this studio. Things that are beautiful and well made are things to be proud of.
